2008 CA Solar installations Double 2007

2008 was a great year for Solar in California, a report released on Wednesday by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) showed that the megawatts (MW) installed last year were double 2007’s installations.

According to the CPUC’s January Staff Progress Report on the California Solar Initiative (CSI) 158 MW were installed in the state compared to 2007’s 78 MW, bringing the total for California up to 441 MW.Southern California Edison (SCE) share came to 13 MW of residential and 49 MW of non-residential projects. The CSI has a goal of 3,000 MW solar-produced electricity by 2016.

The strongest quarter for the CSI program was the fourth, breaking the record for the most applications received in a quarter, in fact December broke the record for the most applications received in a month, with the current upward trend Solar 2009 looks promising.

California is easily the leader amongst other states for installations and even ranks as fourth internationally, behind Germany, Spain, and Japan.
