The New Solar Lease

29 Mar

These days, everyone knows that buying electricity from the utility costs more than solar and creates more pollution than cars and airplanes combined; but for a long time, the solar investment was so large that it was only popular with the very rich or super environmentalists.  Leasing made it possible to obtain cheap solar equipment with very little money upfront and payments less than or similar to utility payments; but again, it wasn’t so attractive that it could be called a true “no-brainer”…until now!

Sunpower just released their latest panel upgrade that exceeds all other panels in efficiency and ‘real world’ performance and reliability.  The E20 series with Maxeon technology is something that you have to get to know; and you can do this by watching the videos on You Tube at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lTotfOgLWs&list=UUOvb0zfbBxC9P_sgxMojCvg&index=2&feature=plcp  Take 10-minutes to watch the first 5 videos and you will agree – Sunpower is the best in solar.  And, since Sunpower is both the leasing company AND the manufacturer, Sunpower is also the best lease in solar!

Other companies offer leasing – but it’s for cheap, low quality equipment.  Other companies offer Sunpower – but they don’t have CGD’s experienced construction and electrical people or design expertise.  The ‘No-Brainer’ combination is Sunpower from CGD; email or call and let us show you!

At CGD, we’re going a step further than turning sunshine into electricity – we’re turning it into college funds and retirement accounts!  We don’t want you to touch the nest egg that you have worked hard to build…the money for the kids college or your retirement  – we want to add to it.  Contact a CGD Solar Designer today and they will show you just how much money we can create from sunshine for you.  It costs nothing – so why wouldn’t you?

Wrap up of January’s Solar Saturday: “Is Free Solar Really Free?”

19 Jan

On Saturday, January 14th, 2012, California Green Designs, a locally owned and operated solar installer serving Los Angeles for over 25-years, held a seminar set to answer this question.  Daily radio ads in LA repeat a promise of “Free Solar” over and over and many people think it is a scam.  How can something that has cost tens of thousands of dollars in the recent past and that was thought to be only for the ‘rich’ all of a sudden become free?  It is a fair question.

“Considering the recent political accusations that special government loans and grants were given to failed companies such as Solyndra in return for campaign donations, now is a time for solar advocates to exhibit the highest possible integrity,” says Sevan Varteressian, owner of CA-Green.

At the seminar, Sales Manager, Dan Burtt shared examples and gave explanations that cleared up the inaccurate statements being made in the radio adds.  “Solar is not free – however, special financing programs enable people with good credit to have solar installed with no upfront fees; and as long as their solar payment is less than their utility payment, they can obtain solar without adding net cost.  In some cases, depending on the client’s situation, their net monthly costs will even go down by adding solar to their home. “  Dan finished with, “Make no mistake – it’s not free; but it is a savvy way to save money and the environment.”

California Green Designs is hosting a series of seminars on the Second Saturday of every month that are specifically designed to dispel rumors and myths about solar.  For more info on the next Solar Saturday, “Are Solar Rebates Still Available? Solar Power and the Partially Shaded Roof

3 Mar

If you have a partially shaded roof and have tried to get a quote for a solar electric system youll know that the system that will be installed is much smaller than what you have the roof space for. California Green Designs is proud to announce that we can now work around your shading. The newest item in our product are micro-inverters. Microinverters are inverters that are attached individually to solar panels.

The reason why shading plays such a large row in solar electricity is due to the type of circuit solar panels are generally connected in. The way solar panels are initially attached in “series”  each series forms a “string”, and each string performs only as well as its weakest performer.

That is to say, when one panel is shaded, anywhere from 5 to 17 other panels lose production as well.

The  solar panels are attached in a dependent manner because of the inverter, (inverters change the type of electricity produced DC, to AC). The solution comes from changing the location and size of the inverter. Instead of one or two inverters for the entire system each panel is fitted with its own inverter. With this new found independence when one panel is shaded, it only effects the performance of that one panel..

The inverters are usually mounted just underneath the panels,Once the inverter are connected to the panels, the inverters are then connected to one another, and then AC energy flows through your solar meter and your electric grid. Any access energy goes back to the utility electric grid.

The new inverter is a product called the Enphase Microinverter, California Green Designs first started carrying the product earlier this year, and the first implementation just this month.
